A website empowering Iowans with a digital roadmap to quality child care solutions
The Iowa Child Care Roadmap project was a crucial initiative to create a user-friendly online resource for navigating the complex world of child care in Iowa. Our mission was to work with our clients to build a comprehensive, intuitive, and visually engaging website that would serve as a go-to guide for a wide range of visitors, from care providers to policymakers.
Our first step was to craft the message. We worked closely with the client to define the project's purpose and audience. This led to the creation of a clear and organized sitemap that would guide visitors through the site logically. We identified three primary visitor types that would likely be visiting the site, ensuring that the content would speak directly to their needs. The homepage copy was crafted to immediately capture attention, clearly stating the website's purpose and encouraging visitors to explore further. We wrote and edited interior page copy based on the client's detailed input, ensuring accuracy and relevance across all sections. To personalize the user experience, we developed a questionnaire that directs new visitors to the areas of the site most relevant to their specific needs.
Branding
With the messaging framework in place, we developed a new visual identity for the Iowa Child Care Roadmap. This project was a joint effort between multiple stakeholders, but we wanted it to feel cohesive. The branding was designed to be clean, approachable, and consistent. We created new branding elements, including a distinctive set of icons, a cohesive color palette, and a clear typography scheme. To maintain consistency, we developed a brand guide that outlines the correct usage of all new branding elements. This document ensures that future content and materials align with the established look and feel. We designed key pages of the website, including the homepage, "rest stop" pages (which serve as hubs for specific information), the visitor questionnaire, the about page, and the contact page.
Website
The technical foundation of the Iowa Child Care Roadmap website was built for performance, security, and ease of use. We developed a fully functional website using WordPress and Oxygen Builder. This included building an interactive visitor questionnaire and creating templates that make it simple for the client to add new content in the future. We optimized the website for speed, security, and accessibility. This ensures a seamless user experience for all visitors, regardless of their device or connection speed.
The visual component of the website was paramount to its success. We carefully evaluated stock photography to ensure it aligned with the new branding and enhanced the site's overall impact. We worked with the messaging and branding teams to select stock photography that was both impactful and consistent with the established tone. The images chosen convey a sense of care, community, and professionalism.
