Of all the challenges a website can bring, dealing with low website traffic can be one of the most frustrating. The three most common reasons for this are:
#1 - Your SEO is poor. Of all the possible reasons, this is where I would start if auditing a website for low traffic. You can have the most beautiful website ever created, but if it’s not built using SEO best practices, the sad truth is that no one will ever find you. Don’t hire an agency, or don’t build a website on your own, if there’s not a clear understanding of SEO best practices.
#2 - Your competition is strong. You might have an amazing product or service, but if you find yourself competing in a very strong industry, garnering website traffic can be incredibly difficult. If this is you, we suggest targeting longer searches, typically 4-5 words, that are highly specific. Don’t try to compete with the toughest searches, instead get hyper-focused and you’ll have a better chance of driving traffic through searches for those keywords.
#3 - Your content isn’t interesting or relevant to your audience. Don’t neglect this! Without spending the time to develop high quality content and a message that truly connects with your visitors, you won’t be able to attract visitors or keep their attention long enough to interest them in your products or services. They’ll jump ship before you even have a chance.
At IFC we believe a strong website consists of great design, captivating media, and messaging that connects. Missing just one of those pieces can lead to low website traffic and uninterested visitors.
